Everton won their first League Championship in the 1890–91 season. After claiming four more League titles and two FA Cups, the club went through a period of decline following the Second World War. However, a resurgence began in the 1960s. The mid-1980s marked a golden era for the club, as Everton secured two additional League championships, one FA Cup, and the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup. The most recent major trophy was the 1995 FA Cup.
Everton holds the distinction of having the second-longest continuous presence in English top-flight football and ranks third in the all-time points standings. As of August 2024, the club has competed in the top division for a record 122 seasons, missing only four top-flight campaigns (1930–31, 1951–52, 1952–53, and 1953–54).
Everton's traditional kit consists of royal blue shirts, white shorts, and socks. The club has played at Goodison Park since 1892, after relocating from their original home at Anfield due to a dispute over rent with landowner John Houlding. Everton's supporters are commonly referred to as "Evertonians" or "Blues." The club shares a long-standing rivalry with local team Liverpool, competing in the Merseyside derby.
In 2016, Farhad Moshiri acquired 49.9% of Everton's shares, becoming the club's owner. As of May 2023, the club's value was estimated at $744 million. For the 2022–23 season, Everton's revenue totaled $242 million, with an operating income of -$23 million. In December 2024, American billionaire Dan Friedkin purchased the club.
