Oliviero Toscani

 Oliviero Toscani (February 28, 1942 – January 13, 2025) was an Italian photographer, internationally renowned for creating provocative advertising campaigns for the Italian brand Benetton from 1982 to 2000.

MILAN – Renowned photographer Oliviero Toscani passed away on Monday at the Cecina hospital in Tuscany at the age of 82. Two years ago, he disclosed that he had been battling amyloidosis.


Born in Milan on February 28, 1942, Toscani built a distinguished career spanning decades. He worked with prestigious magazines like Elle, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Esquire, as well as major brands such as Missoni, Valentino, Chanel, and Fiorucci. However, he is most famously remembered for his groundbreaking partnership with United Colors of Benetton during the 1980s and 1990s. Toscani’s provocative ad campaigns tackled important social issues, including the death penalty, AIDS, racism, and LGBTQ+ rights, cementing his legacy as a trailblazer in the world of photography and advertising.
