Three individuals are still missing after a seaplane crashed off the coast of Rottnest Island during takeoff on Tuesday.
Water Police, along with several private boats, swiftly responded to the scene after the privately owned aircraft plunged into the waters near Thompson Bay shortly after 4pm.
Two RAC rescue helicopters were deployed to the island, rescuing four individuals from the water. Authorities confirmed that there were seven people on board the aircraft, including one pilot.
Three of the rescued individuals were airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries, while the fourth was unharmed.
Police Commissioner Col Blanch stated that authorities are still investigating the incident.
It is believed that the plane struck Phillip Rock, located about 600 meters from the coastline at the entrance to Thompson Bay, just before the crash occurred.
