A Temple University freshman has tragically died after falling from a street pole while celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles' victory in Sunday's NFC Championship game. Tyler Sabapathy, 18, a native of Toronto, was a talented gymnast and a student in the College of Public Health, where he was majoring in exercise and sport science.
According to witnesses, Sabapathy climbed to the top of the pole during the celebrations, but fell and hit his head on the sidewalk. He was rushed to a hospital and passed away from his injuries on Tuesday.
Sabapathy had a distinguished gymnastics career, earning over 120 medals in provincial, regional, and international competitions. He was also an active member of Temple's gymnastics team.
