Eaton fire

California National Guard troops arrived overnight to help with road closures as firefighters continue battling the large Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County. Video footage showed the troops stationed in Altadena, providing support so that L.A. sheriff’s deputies could focus on patrolling neighborhoods and preventing potential looting. So far, at least 20 individuals have been arrested for looting within evacuation zones amid the recent surge of wildfires.

Crews are still working to contain the 13,960-acre fire that moved toward Mount Wilson on Thursday afternoon. Firefighters successfully prevented the flames from damaging key broadcast infrastructure, according to officials.

The fire, which began Tuesday amid hurricane-force winds near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, has destroyed an estimated 1,000 structures. As of Thursday night, containment remained at 0%.

Evacuation orders (red) and warnings (yellow) remain in effect for much of Altadena, Pasadena, and nearby areas, as shown on the map above. An interactive map is also available on the California.gov website.

Authorities are working tirelessly to safely return residents to their homes and are asking for patience during this process.

"It's extremely dangerous. There is ongoing structural damage, exposed gas lines, and downed power lines. We want to prevent anyone from putting themselves at risk or creating additional hazards for first responders," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Meza.

The following school districts have announced they will remain closed on Friday due to the Eaton Fire.
