Carroll began his head coaching career in the NFL with the New York Jets in 1994 and later with the New England Patriots from 1997 to 1999, but had limited success. Shifting to college football, he took over a struggling USC program and transformed it into a national powerhouse. Under his leadership, USC won seven straight conference championships and an AP National Championship, along with a BCS National Championship in 2004, though the latter title was later vacated.
Carroll's college success led to his return to the NFL in 2010 when he became the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Over 14 seasons, Carroll led the Seahawks to the playoffs 10 times, secured five division titles, and made two consecutive Super Bowl appearances, culminating in the team's first-ever championship with a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. His defense, known as the "Legion of Boom," also dominated, leading the NFL in scoring defense for four consecutive seasons. After the 2023 season, Carroll stepped down as head coach and took on an advisory role with the Seahawks.
