Matchday: USMNT Wraps Up January Camp with 3-0 Win Over Costa Rica
By MLSsoccer Staff | Thursday, Jan 23, 2025, 08:15 AM
The U.S. Men's National Team ended their January camp with a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica on Wednesday night at Orlando City SC's Inter&Co Stadium, securing two wins out of two.
Brian White and Caden Clark marked their first international goals, and Patrick Agyemang scored for the second consecutive match. The result boosted head coach Mauricio Pochettino's record to 5 wins, 1 loss, and 0 draws.
White opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing from a precise Diego Luna cross to give the U.S. a deserved lead. Despite the U.S. controlling much of the match, goalkeeper Zack Steffen made critical saves to keep Costa Rica at bay, including a stunning stop on Alan Cruz’s goal-bound shot.
Clark doubled the lead in the 77th minute with a brilliant first-time strike from outside the box. Agyemang sealed the win in the 90th minute, scoring his second goal of the camp.

Three Things
- The Big Picture: Pochettino wanted to assess MLS-based talent, and the players delivered. Five individuals (White, Clark, Agyemang, Jack McGlynn, and Matko Miljevic) scored their first international goals, helping the U.S. to a 6-1 aggregate score across wins against Venezuela and Costa Rica. The question now is whether anyone has earned a call-up for upcoming tournaments like the Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup later this year.
- Moment of the Match: White’s early goal set the tone for the U.S. and helped secure a solid end to their January camp.
- Man of the Match: Diego Luna was instrumental, providing an excellent assist and putting in an impressive performance in his 45 minutes on the field, demonstrating exactly what he needed to catch Pochettino's attention.
